Withnail and I star Richard E Grant has been revealed as the ‘iconic’ star set to appear in the Doctor Who Christmas special later this year. The actor earlier played the time-travelling Doctor himself in 2003, Ninth Doctor in the online flash-animated series The Scream of the Shalka.
The news was revealed by the BBC television via the sci-fi series’ official Twitter feed at midnight, after it tweeted on August 5 that the actor was to appear in the show. While, the specific information of the Withnail & I actor’s character have not so far been defined.
According to the sources – He played ‘Doctor Who’ in the digital animated ‘The Scream Of The Shalka’ and he’s honored to be in the Christmas Special – Grant told in an official statement. Tom Ward will also seen in the festive installment opposite Matt Smith and new friend Jenna-Louise Coleman, who will make her ‘Doctor Who’ first appearance in the episode.
Doctor Who will return with its seventh series premiere ‘Asylum of the Daleks’ in August. The episode will debut at BFI Southbank in London on August 14, and will also be televise at the Edinburgh TV Festival later this month.
Filming set on the Christmas special – under director Saul Metzstein – will commence this week in Wales. However, a television air date for ‘Asylum of the Daleks’ has till now not been revealed by the BBC television.
